About SaiTong

What Does "SaiTong" Mean?

We discern two meanings behind "Sai Tong"

Initially, "Sai" denotes the venerable Banyan Tree. In ancient Thai culture, it was believed that planting a Banyan Tree in front of one's home would offer shade, leading to the adage "shade of Bodhi, shade of Banyan," which not only provided cool respite but also safeguarded against calamities. Some regarded the Banyan Tree as sacred, inhabited by protective spirits, thus ensuring community safety. Moreover, the Banyan Tree's significance extends to its extensive roots and branches, fostering the growth of surrounding vegetation. Additionally, its association with Buddhism underscored its symbolism of universal enlightenment and protection.

Conversely, the second interpretation of "Sai" pertains to a tool utilized for trapping various animals, a tradition deeply ingrained in Thai rural life. Historically, nearly every household possessed a "Sai" placed near water sources to secure sustenance through trapping.

Linked with mystical beliefs, these fish traps were believed to possess extraordinary powers, ensnaring prey within their grasp, signifying an irrevocable capture. Scholars and practitioners often integrated. "Sai" into rituals to attract fortune, transforming it into a revered "Golden Sai," particularly esteemed among traders

Hence, "Sai Tong" serves as the muse for crafting restaurants and cuisine in the vein of "Thai Southern Modern Seafood." It accentuates the utilization of natural materials like wires and threads in design, with a color palette dominated by black and gold, complemented by woven crafts and indigenous elements, showcasing the artistry of local Thai communities. Moreover, its signature dishes elevate southern Thai cuisine on the global stage, blending contemporary presentation with authentic flavors.
